Our achievements

Over the past 6 years that Haddon Way Residents Association has been operating we have had several successes some of these are described below.

20 March 2012

A crossing point was installed across Haddon Way thanks to the Sustainable Travel and Improvement team who agreed to make funding available to construct an ‘appropriate pedestrian crossing point’

February 2012

The dead trees on Haddon Way have been replaced and new ones planted. Thanks to the resident who worked on this.

December 2011

We launched Streetwatch. The first one in Leicestershire and held the Christmas Windows event down on Grange Park and the Haddon Way estate with carol singing events on both estates. The carol singing events raised £76 for Rainbows.

October 2011

Held a big tidy up and planted the bulbs we bought from the Loughborough University Grant. Look out for them in spring!

August 2011

Held a community funday with a refreshment tent and bouncy castle.

July 2011
Reside supported by HWRA has successfully bid for a grant from Loughborough University as part of the Inside Out Fund. The money will go towards the annual Reside Community Fun Day. This year it will be bigger and better than the past three years!

May 2011
HWRA successfully bid for a grant from Loughborough University's donation fund. The money will be used to plant bulbs around the estate.

December 2010
If you lived in the Fairmeadows/Haddon Way estate then you would have received a flyer advertising a community Christmas windows and a carol singing event. 24 resident’s volunteered to decorate up a window expressing what Christmas means to them. Though the weather tried to hamper the events of window decoration they all managed to get up and residents were able to go out for a winter walk with a difference! The whole event culminated on 23 December with a carol singing finale at Rainbows, with the windows being judged by OAK FM and an acapella choir called Devoted singing. Local Deacon, Ellie Griffin, told the 100 or so people who turned up, about the Christmas story, while a residents band played and mince pies were given out. The event had prizes sponsored by local businesses and went down very well.

November 2010
HWRA are aware that there are many issues affecting residents regarding road and land adoption. As a result HWRA have been working with the council to try and get these areas adopted as soon as possible. If you are unsure as to weather your road is adopted or not please check this part of the Leicestershire County Council website.

For areas of land within our area please check this PDF document for specific land ownership details, if you have an issue with the land.

We have recently found out that the land in the Miller homes development is tabled for adoption shortly with the papers currently being drawn up by solicitors. With certain parts of older land having been agreed for adoption and papers being processed.

August 2010
In August alongside Reside, HWRA held a very successful Community Fun Day after a years absence. The day saw many people attending several stalls held on the green, including ones from Rainbows, Reside and HWRA. There was also a fire demonstration by our local firemen as well as races for children and a street team event in which Poppy Close won some bulbs for their street.

17 September 2009

We made representation to the Loughbroough East Area forum, and made a bid for £2000 to improve the quality of life for residents. We would use the money to create somewhere for new/young parents to take their toddlers for a cup of tea, chat and a safe warm environment for the toddlers to play in. If this proved popular we could extend this to teen clubs.

We also requested the money to commission and install noticeboards and to hire a room for our meetings. We were in the top 4 ideas and wait to see how sucessful we have been.

1 September 2008

Haddon Way, Clumber Close, Newstead Way and Calke Close were formally adopted by Charnwood Borough Council on 1 September 2008.

1 August 2008

We appeared in the Loughborough Echo twice! We appeared on page 2 about the recent departure of our Secretary. As a parting shot, the old Secretary had an article published about the state of the Hazel Road Shops and the Old Farmhouse.

1 May 2008

We succeeded in having a Litter Bin placed outside each of Outwoods Edge and Woodbrooke Vale Schools, we hope that his will help with the perennial litter problem that we suffer in this area.

22 April 2008

We have a shiney new Royal Mail Post Box on Haddon Way almost central to the Residents Association area, thanks in particular to one resident who took this task on and deserves our thanks for his dogged efforts.

March 2008

After a long campaign we now have a Dog Waste Bin on the path parallel with Juniper way from Fairmeadows Way to Laurel Road.

We are working to increase the frequency with which the bin is emptied and who knows maybe another bin, as and when land is adopted.

Other notable achievements:

  • We attended the first Community Area Forum and will be attending as regular invitees. Through a quirk of geography we're in the Loughborough East area. The Area Forums are an attempt by local government to connect with the residents to inform and to find out what people think. Anyone can attend so please feel free to turn up or come to one of our meetings and find out who you can share a car with.
  • We have at last trees planted along Haddon Way, which for me make the long straight section of road much more pleasant to walk along.
  • School Zone 20mph Speed Limits around the two local schools.
